RE Mission

RE Mission

This is a photo project about people with alcohol and drug addictions who are currently staying clean.
“Addiction is a chronic, potentially fatal disease, but it is still often not seen as such by society—rather, it's viewed as a personal choice,” says Arseny, the youngest participant in the project, 24 years old.

According to the World Mental Health Surveys, approximately 75.2% of individuals in Europe who have experienced alcohol use disorders are in remission—meaning they have had no disorder-related problems for over 12 months, or about three out of four people. Data on drug addiction remission is limited; however, high relapse rates highlight the challenges of sustained recovery.

Quitting addiction is a complex and lifelong process, but it begins with the admission of one's own powerlessness.
“The first 12 months are the hardest, but the first three years are just the beginning. Working with addiction is a lifelong journey,” says one of the participants in the project.

For this project, I photographed three people: Vlada, Arseny, and Vasily.

At the time of shooting, in February and March 2025, the participants were at different stages of remission and attending the Anonymous support groups in Paris.
